Melissa Chorney OTD, OTR/L

Occupational Therapy

Melissa Chorney is an occupational therapist with over 10 years of experience primarily in pediatrics and school settings, her career has focused on mental health, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing. She believes in promoting positive outcomes through a holistic approach that emphasizes parent collaboration, recognizing children's behavior as a form of communication, and fostering growth in natural environments. She is a strong advocate for honoring the unique qualities of each child and celebrating what their individuality has to offer the world, while helping them grow to their highest potential. The use of the outdoors to promote well-being has always been a passion and guiding point in her therapeutic career. Grounded in her doctoral work, Melissa wrote a grant to receive funding for an outdoor sensory space to provide a safe place for students to decompress, regulate, and provide a grounding experience throughout the school day. Most importantly, being a mother has provided Melissa the most important professional understanding of the crucial role that parents play in the growth of their kids, and that parents are the strongest member of a child's intervention team.
